Basil Alsubee

Immigration Paralegal

Basil Alsubee is a Syrian American of Damascene origin born in Detroit and raised in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in History from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor two years after arriving to the US in 2015, and a Masters degree in Near Eastern Studies from NYU shortly afterwards. Basil is passionate about serving immigrant communities, as well as their built and natural environments. Before his current position as an Immigration Paralegal at Al-Khersan Law, he served as a Project Manager at an Environmental Justice and Housing Justice organization in the South Bronx, New York City, where he organized with and for Puerto Rican, Dominican, Bengali, West African and Black American communities. He also has extensive experience as an Arabic-English live and literary translator, and as a documentary short filmmaker.

Outside of work, you can find Basil reading, playing the Oud, and spending time with his friends, family, and cat.
